Originally designed as midge patterns for the Grey Reef Section of the North Platte River, the Split Foam Back is unique in that it incorporates a small bit of dense foam that both enhances the appearance of the fly but also a small bit of buoyancy with a split down the back with one type of flashing or another. They can also be slightly weighted to get down a bit.
With incredible detail for such small patterns, the Split Foam Back is our most successful midge pattern.
