A classic attractor pattern ideal for faster, heavier water but still fishes great in still water too. The Humpy is durable, buoyant & effective. Sometimes called a Goofus Fly but basically its’ the same pattern but in the Rocky Mountain West, many call it the “Goofus”. As we research some patterns, we find some intriguing history behind many. Jack Horner of San Francisco designed the Humpy in the early 1940s for California-s swift rivers, where good floatation is paramount. He named it the “Horner Deer Hair” fly. One of Horner-s fly customers brought the fly to the Yellowstone area, where it struck gold and the rest is history. Eight color patterns are available, both “Royal” patterns are tied with white wings for great visibility.
